PROTECTION AGAINST HUMIDITY

Long term and cost efficient

ProofCap encapsulations have showed to withstand harsh outdoor and urban conditions for 20 years (Testing at SP, Swedish National Testing & Research Institute). The technology offers a near-hermetic barrier against moisture migration. It is based on well known and cost effective laminate solutions for food and beverage industry, which have been adapted for application on electronics.

Relative humidity (RH) inside a typical ProofCap enclosure (green) as a function of the ambient humidity (red). It is a 20 year lifetime simulation representative for middle-east countries and shows how ProofCap effectively works as a ”low pass filter” to protect against moisture The diagram is the result of a simulation tool that has been developed to study long term environmental exposures.

ProofCap offers a limited leakage due to one or several metal foils in the laminate. The melt-seal is also tight and can be further improved with different seal designs. The moisture diffusion rate into a ProofCap enclosure is slow, with a time constant of several years. Penetrated moisture is absorbed by plastic based packaging materials typical for modern electronics and the plastic film inside of the ProofCap cover thus reducing the risk for condensation.

The rough seas of the Norwegian fiords have proven that ProofCap can withstand constant saltwater exposure under rapid weather and temperature shifts. Janeko AB that produces Automated Fish Feeding electronics uses a specially designed ProofCap bag that does not require any press or melt-sealing machine.
